Tree cutting cuts proposed

October 2018

In three days of confidential mediated talks including Sheffield Tree Action Groups (STAG) and contractors Amey, Sheffield city council has proposed a deal to cut down fewer trees. Felling of trees was temporarily halted in March after protests and arrests, but about 5,500 trees have been removed (replaced with saplings).

STAG said: “Sheffield city council have made a statement on TV news indicating that they have a plan for future tree fellings but giving no details", adding that it has no mandate to approve plans put forward by the Council, individual tree campaigners and groups must decide whether they accept the proposals or not.
