Northern Social Forum - 'Another world is possible'

Fri 18-Sat 19 June 2010, at Northern College, Barnsley

This two-day event will bring together a range of organizations and campaigns from the region to explore and develop global-local alternatives for addressing social, political, environmental and economic problems. The event will include drafting a message for the G8 Summit (to be held in Toronto, June 26 /27). The event aims to: Bring people together to analyse problems and develop alternative solutions, provide an opportunity for wider networking and action planning and be a relaxed and enjoyable social gathering in a beautiful location.

  • Discussion groups on a range of themes:
  • Women
  • The environment
  • International labour rights
  • Community
  • Alternative models from Latin America
  • Media skills workshops
  • Healing space
  • Outdoor fair with stalls and (educational) games
  • World music and disco on Friday evening
  • Drafting a communal message to the G8
  • Action planning: What next?
Runs from noon on Fri 18th to 2.30pm on Sat 19th June, at Northern College, Wentworth Castle, Stainborough, Barnsley, S75 3ET. This is a free event, including a buffet lunch.
