Course: Sheffield Activism - Rebellion to Cold War

Thu 17/24 Jan - Thu 28 Mar 2019, Voluntary Action Sheffield (The Circle), 33 Rockingham Lane, S1 4FW

A course on Sheffield´s long history of people´s activism, run by the WEA (Workers´ Educational Association). Tutor (and activist) Nigel Slack will cover the period 1500-1950 in this series of 2-hour sessions.

NOTE you can choose 3pm or 6pm start time. Fee £87.50, all details on the link below, including downloadable full course information sheet. The course is suitable for beginners or improvers, no pre-reading is required.

Film: "Salt of the Earth"

Thu 21 Feb 2019, 7.30pm, Regather, 57-59 Club Garden Rd. S11 8BU

Celebrated by Noam Chomsky, and originally blacklisted in the USA for being subversive, Salt of the Earth tells the true story of the wives of striking zinc miners in New Mexico, and is performed by those who took part in it. A real life documentary, not simply left-wing morality or “communist propaganda”. It covers tensions between the strikers, white and Mexican, and the women they struggle to see as equal.
