Manchester & Salford Anarchist Bookfair 2019

Sat 7 Dec 2019, 10am-4pm, People’s History Museum Left Bank, Spinningfields, Manchester M3 3ER

Sheffield no longer holds an Anarchist Bookfair (since 2017) so this is worth travelling to, especially because it’s held this year at the People’s History Museum which is interesting in itself, and it’s in central Manchester.

Manchester & Salford Anarchist Bookfair (formerly the Manchester Radical Bookfair) is for anyone interested in finding out more about anarchism and anarchist ideas. As well as books there will be talks, flyers, freebies, and probably an after-party. A free event.

UBI Lab Winter Social

Sat 7 Dec 2019, 12-3pm, South Street Kitchen, 19-20 South St. S2 5QX

The group promoting Universal Basic Income holds a social afternoon, a good chance to meet them or get involved. Both Labour and the Green Party are taking seriously the idea of UBI, it looks like Sheffield might be one of the places it first takes off, thanks to UBI Lab Sheffield.

South Street Kitchen is accessible, and 2 minutes walk from the station, in part of Park Hill Flats.

XR 12 Days of Crisis

Sat 7 Dec 2019, beginning of march 8.30am on Devonshire Green, Division St. S1 4GX

Pre-election, Extinction Rebellion Sheffield will stage a day of flooding-themed events at a secret location in Sheffield city centre as part of the national ‘12 Days of Crisis’ campaign to address the ecological crisis upon us, the mass species extinctions and runaway climate change. Societal collapse and mass deaths cannot be ignored by criminal government inactivity. Extinction Rebellion believes it is a citizen’s duty to rebel, using peaceful civil disobedience.

Activities include:

Democratic people’s assembly
Rebels dressed for severe weather and flooding
Crisis carol singing
Flooding-themed visuals
Closing ceremony around 4pm

For a basic introduction, see the Climate Factsheet for Rebels. XR are now holding Collaborative Leadership Calls to help coach people to improve their leadership skills and capacities. And while your time and energy are the most important things, if you are financially able to donate money, see their "Fundrazr" crowdfunder.
