Fracking: Health impacts & the KM8 victory

Come and hear how the North Yorkshire community of Kirby Misperton united to protect their landscape from fracking, and views from two different approaches to activism from Eddie and Tim Thornton. Eddie Thornton is an activist who threw everything on the line to protect his local area from fracking. Tim Thornton is a retired family doctor, who set up Concerned Health Professionals of the UK, with Carol Hutchinson from Eckington.
Also Deborah Gibson, local activist and campaigner from Harthill Against Fracking, and Frack Free South Yorkshire. The full update on fighting fracking in this area, and how you can help.

Course: Sheffield Activism - Rebellion to Cold War

A course on Sheffield´s long history of people´s activism, run by the WEA (Workers´ Educational Association). Tutor (and activist) Nigel Slack will cover the period 1500-1950 in this series of 2-hour sessions.

NOTE you can choose 3pm or 6pm start time. Fee £87.50, all details on the link below, including downloadable full course information sheet. The course is suitable for beginners or improvers, no pre-reading is required.

"Making Space"

An exhibition about squatting, trespass and housing direct action, by Sam Burgum, researcher at the University of Sheffield. Alternative radical histories of property ownership and protest from the Magna Carta to current day activist campaigns, well worth a visit.

(New Roots is a volunteer-run, non-for-profit community shop. It also features ethical local and Fairtrade products, organic fruit and veg, vegan and gluten-free refreshments, and activity space).
